What the work involves
Main duties
- Drive trucks over 4,500 kg to move goods
- Plan trips, get the right documents and permits, including for international routes
- Inspect the vehicle before, during and after trips
- Secure cargo and follow dangerous-goods safety rules
- Record hours of service, distance, fuel and cargo details in log books
- Stay in contact with dispatchers and customers

Employment requirements
- Secondary school is usually expected; on-the-job training is provided
- Accredited driver training course of up to three months may be needed
- Class 1/A licence for long combination vehicles, Class 3/D for straight trucks, air brake endorsement and dangerous-goods certification where applicable
Required driver's licence class and endorsements (air brake, transportation of dangerous goods) are set by provincial rules; this is licensing rather than a professional college (per NOC profile).
