Main duties
- Gather user requirements and write logical and physical specifications
- Research and design computer-based systems, including mobile apps
- Build data, process and network models to improve architecture and performance
- Plan and coordinate development, installation and integration of systems
- Test, troubleshoot, document and upgrade operating systems and applications
- May lead teams building software and embedded control systems

Employment requirements
- Bachelor's degree, usually in computer science, computer systems engineering, software engineering or mathematics, or a college computer science program

- P.Eng. licensing is required only to approve engineering drawings and practise as a Professional Engineer
