What the work involves
Main duties
- Read engineering drawings and plan the order of machining steps
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances and lay out workpieces
- Set up and run machine tools, including CNC equipment, for sawing, turning, milling, boring and grinding
- Fit and assemble machined parts with hand and power tools
- Check part dimensions with precision measuring instruments
- Inspectors: measure parts, calibrate gauges and report deviations

Employment requirements
- Secondary school is usually expected
