1. Check eligibility
Make sure you meet at least one program: FSW, CEC or FST. The eligibility checker lists what is missing.
2. Gather the documents you need to create a profile
- Language test results under two years old
- An educational credential assessment for foreign education (FSW, or for points)
- Your NOC code and work history
- A valid passport
3. Create your profile and enter the pool
Your profile is valid for 12 months. You get a CRS score as soon as it is submitted. You can update it at any time.
4. Improve your position while you wait
Retake a test, add work experience, and look at provincial streams. See how to raise your CRS.
5. Receive an invitation to apply
Rounds happen several times a month, each with its own type and cutoff. If invited, you have 60 days to submit a complete application. An invitation you do not accept or decline expires.
6. Submit the PR application
Upload police certificates, medical exam results, proof of funds (if required), reference letters and civil documents. Pay the fees, including the right of permanent residence fee.
7. Biometrics, processing and confirmation
IRCC's service standard is six months for most complete applications. When approved, you receive a confirmation of permanent residence and, if you are outside Canada, a visa to travel.
